Training course & preparation in nutshell

Length of the training course
Selected candidates must undergo a 6–9-week training course before employment. The duration varies based on previous flight experience and recency of Cabin Crew Member work. If a candidate has no prior CCM experience, the course lasts 9 weeks. Training is unpaid and begins gradually from early 2027. Training courses will be held throughout the spring. Full on-site attendance is required.

Preparation
About two months before the course starts, you will receive preparation instructions. This includes a pre-employment security clearance, a foreign criminal history declaration if you have lived abroad and registered outside of Finland for over six months in the last five years, a medical examination with a drug test, and a uniform fitting. An EU-required five-year background check will verify your employment & education records and any gaps in your history. It is recommended to gather the necessary documents in advance to be prepared.

Earlier Cabin Crew experience
For those who have previously worked in cabin crew, we check the last flight experience and also collect block hours on a monthly basis before the start of the course.

Conditional participation in the course
Participation in the course requires a clean criminal record (security clearance), passing the pre-employment health check, and taking care of other assigned tasks within a given timeframe.
Good to know about this job
Homebase and workday
The cabin crew’s home base is Helsinki Airport, where all flights operate from. The job includes standby shifts, requiring crew members to be available on short notice. If you’re relocating, you’ll need to live in the Helsinki Metropolitan area to fulfill your duties. Workdays vary depending on the assigned flights. Cabin crew members work on both domestic and international flights, with shifts ranging from multiple flights to a single destination like Oulu to long-haul flights to Asia.
Salary and contract
After training, selected employees receive a full-time permanent or fixed term contract of approximately 110 working hours per month. Cabin crew member’s salary varies a lot depending on what kind of flights you fly and when. The basic salary of full-time employment and the hourly salary of part-time employment depend on how much experience you have as a cabin crew member. If you have previous cabin crew experience, max. 2 years will be taken into account according to CLA (Collective Labor Agreement). The salary consists of basic salary, salary additionals (approx. 30-40% of the basic salary), and daily allowances. Salary additionals include e.g. Sunday allowance or night duty allowance. The monthly basic salary ranges currently from about 1800€ gross pay to around 3000€ gross pay for crew members with long experience. The salary grade has an effect on salary additionals as well. Salary is based on the agreement between the Service Sector Employers PALTA and Transport Workers’ Union AKT.
Terms of employment
As a member of our dedicated small group of Helsinki base employees with knowledge of Japanese language and culture your long-haul duties will focus on our Japan destinations. In addition, you will fly European and domestic flights. Planning rules for this dedicated group are in the CLA section 10.5.

Length requirement & reach test
The job requires a minimum height of 160 cm and a reach of 218 cm. For occupational health and safety reasons, candidates who do not meet these requirements cannot work as Finnair cabin crew members. The reach test will be conducted by Finnair Health Services before training courses.
It is advisable to test reach independently before applying. Test must be conducted barefoot, with the test subject extending their hand as high as possible along the wall. During the test, standing on tiptoes is allowed (Picture 1). The fingertip of the extended hand must reach the required height of 218 cm (Picture 2).
Health Requirements for Cabin Crew Members
The applicant must be in good general health and is able to work irregular hours and night shifts, including coping with stress related to circadian disruption. The applicant’s health condition must meet the medical fitness requirements specified in the EASA Part MED regulations as well as the operational requirements of Finnair. Certain illnesses or disorders may disqualify an applicant from the role, such as significant chronic diseases, cardiovascular conditions, sleep disorders, and mental health issues. The applicant must provide comprehensive information about their health status and, upon request, submit copies of medical records.
Finnair Health Services conducts a comprehensive two-part medical suitability assessment for all cabin crew members being hired. Health information is not shared directly with Finnair as the employer. Finnair Health Services handles the medical assessment, and the health data is kept separate from other applicant information.
